Preparing for JAMB UTME is easier when you follow a clear plan. These six steps will help you use your study time well, whether you have months to go or only a few weeks.
1. Confirm your subjects
Everyone writes Use of English, plus three subjects that match the course they want. Check the requirements for your course and university before you start, so you don’t spend time on the wrong subject.
2. Study from the syllabus
The JAMB syllabus lists the topics for each subject. Use it as your checklist and tick off each topic when you finish it. You will always know what is left.
3. Practise by topic
Reading alone is rarely enough. After you study a topic, answer questions on it straight away. This shows you what you really understand and gets you used to how questions are asked.
4. Learn from your mistakes
When you get a question wrong, read the explanation and work out why. Keep a short list of your weak topics and come back to them every week.
5. Practise against the clock
The UTME gives you 180 questions in 2 hours, which is about 40 seconds a question. Sit timed mock exams so the pace feels normal. If a question is taking too long, move on and come back to it later.
6. Get used to the screen
The UTME is computer-based, so don’t only practise on paper. Get comfortable reading questions and choosing answers on a screen before exam day.
In the last few weeks
Spend less time on new material and more on your weak topics and full mock exams. Before the exam, check your details and your centre, sleep well and arrive early.
