ONTARIO SECONDARY DIPLOMA

The OSSD curriculum includes a wide range of courses in the arts, humanities, sciences, and social sciences. Students who successfully complete the OSSD requirements are well-prepared for university and college education, as well as for the workplace. The curriculum is designed to challenge students and provide them with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in their future endeavors. Requirements To Earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)

To earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), students must complete the following requirements:

1. Earn a total of 30 credits

  • 18 compulsory credits:
      • 4 credits in English (1 credit per grade)
      • 3 credits in mathematics (1 credit in grade 11 or 12)
      • 2 credits in science
      • 1 credit in Canadian history
      • 1 credit in Canadian geography
      • 1 credit in the arts
      • 1 credit in health and physical education
      • 0.5 credit in civics
      • 0.5 credit in career studies
      • 12 optional credits

2. Complete 40 hours of community involvement activities

  • These activities must be completed outside of regular school hours and may include volunteering at a non-profit organization, participating in a fundraising event, or helping out at a community event.

3. Pass the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) or complete the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OSSLC)
